Jeremy Scott:

The Moschino Man

Jeremy Scott is unquestionably one of the biggest upcoming designers of our era. From recreating and rising  Moschino a couple of years ago, to collaborating with the colossal name/history of Adidas (plus more) and conquering us all, it has been a long journey. Let’s check it out.

Scott was born in 1975 in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, for fashion design. After his graduation  in the late 1990s, he started working with Björk and showing in Paris Fashion Week. The 21-year-old Scott made hi debut to Paris where his collection, made out of paper hospital gowns and inspired by the body-modifying artist Orlan, would go down in fashion folklore. And his first formal runway presentation in October 1997, ‘Rich White Women’, presenting asymmetrically cut trousers and multifunctional T-shirts, would establish Scott as a considerable Paris presence. His collection brought him international fashion recognition, winning the Venus de la Mode Award for “Best Designer of the Year” in both 1996 and 1997. By 1999, Scott was recognized by the CFDA( Council of Fashion designers of America)  and was nominated for “ Best Young Designer.”

In Autumn 2001, Scott relocated to Los Angeles, a city that has welcomed his über-trash, parodic style with wide-open arms. So much so that in January 2002, Scott achieved one of his long-term ambitions when he appeared as a celebrity contestant on ‘Wheel Of Fortune’ and dressed hostess Vanna White for five night showcase of his glamour gowns and denim wear.

Scott was quickly becoming one to watch in the fashion arena and was nominated by The Face Magazine in 2004, the Most Important People in Fashion list. Jeremy was ranked at thirty-one higher than Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen.

His eccentric and out of the box collections have been wore by celebrities, such as  Kanye West, Björk, Lindsay Lohan, Cameron Diaz, Robyn, Paris Hilton, Madonna, Cory Kennedy, Kylie Minogue, Yelle, Lady Gaga, Hayley Williams, Gwen Stefani, Wonder Girls, ASAP Rocky, Beth Ditto, Justin Timberlake, Nickie Minaj, Fergie, Tori Amos, Santogold and Christina Aguilera among others.

The year of 2008, was a big one for him. It’s the year when his collaboration with Adidas began, by first launching an apparel and footwear collection that soon enough became popular among the hip hop societies.

Before moving his residence to Beverly Hills, Scott lived on a farm in the outskirts of Kansas. One of his collections, S/S 2012 for men reflected his inspiration from these two worlds. One is from where he started and the other is from where he ended up.

Up to our date now, Scott is up to a new and unexpected collaboration that for once again will shake even more the already shattered waters of fashion.
